Health sensor platform

Health sensor platform

Overview

The MAXREFDES100# health sensor platform is an integrated sensor platform that helps customers evaluate Maxim's comprehensive, innovative medical and high-end fitness solutions. The platform integrates a biopotential analog front-end solution (MAX30003/MAX30004), a pulse oximeter and heart rate sensor (MAX30101), 2 body temperature sensors (MAX30205), a 3-axis accelerometer, a 3D accelerometer and 3D gyroscope, and 1 absolute atmospheric pressure sensor.

Operating mode

The health sensor platform can operate in one of three modes:

  • Tethered mode: Users can connect the health sensor platform to the PC-based GUI using a USB-C cable. This mode supports all sensors installed on the board, including ECG, optical and temperature sensors. The GUI provides options to run a quick demonstration (using default register settings), as well as to evaluate individual sensors in detail by changing the register settings for individual sensors or the analog front end.
  • Non-tethered mode (offline): The health sensor platform collects data and saves it to onboard flash memory, where it can then be downloaded for post-processing. This mode requires the health sensor platform to be connected to a PC GUI like tethered mode to configure sensors and write tasks to onboard flash memory; it can then be disconnected and executed offline. When working in this mode, the battery holder and button battery (not included) must be installed.
  • Non-tethered mode (real-time): Customers can stream data to Android in real-time (an app is available for download). We provide some demo features on how to connect the platform to the app. Customers can use the provided source code to develop their own apps to meet specific needs. The app supports the following functions::
    • Temperature, using temperature sensor
    • Atmospheric pressure, using pressure sensor
    • HR, using ECG simulation front-end
    • Board position, using accelerometer

When the HSP board is connected to the app, it supports the first two functions; for the latter two functions, customers need to set tasks before connecting to the app. Please refer to the instructions for setting up the task.

PC and Android applications are provided on the design resources tab to help users get started and work quickly. The PC application provides a graphical user interface (GUI) that enables the user to configure and interact with all sensors via a USB connection. Android applications provide the ability to monitor sensor data via BLE. See the Details tab for instructions on installing and running the application.

Supports ARM mbed development environment, suitable for developers who want to customize platform operations. The MAXREFDES100HDK# programming adapter provided with the platform provides a driver-less drag-and-drop programming method that can be used to update firmware. It also provides a virtual UART interface and a CMSIS-DAP compatible debugger. For firmware development details and source code examples, visit the MAX32620HSP platform page on the ARM mbed developer site.

Design files, firmware and software can be downloaded from the Design Resources tab. Circuit boards are provided for users to purchase.
