A single AD521 instrumentation amplifier compares the levels of independent signals from two sources that have no common reference point. When one differential signal is applied to the op amp's common input and another to the reference input, the output is proportional to the difference. Positive feedback provides a small amount of retention to eliminate ambiguity and reduce susceptibility to noise.
