As GPS technologies have matured, more consumer aftermarket
applications have been developed. Service providers have joined
together to combine integrated voice and data cellular service
along with the benefits of GPS location capabilities to provide
many user benefits, including an ideal solution to the E9-1-1
problem for cellular phone users. Stranded motorists, for
example, may use their in-vehicle GPS system to identify their
location, and their cellular phone to call for help. Additionally,
trucking fleets are able to track their assets while the driver has
nationwide cellular communications at his fingertips.
