Introduction
The following application hint points out different Bellcore requirements and how the
FALC-LH can be programmed to meet them. Addtionally you will find the description of
the FDL signaling software that has been tested by Bellcore. The Device Drivers
provided with the EASY2255, the Evaluation System for FALC-LH, contains the
initialization that is described in the following sections.
DS1 as for example defined in ANSI T1.102 describes the features of the digital signals
in the first level of a digital network system. The FALC-LH supports beside the
requirements of the European ETSI standard E1 also the requirements at the cross
connect point DSX-1 (Short Haul) which interconnects DS1 equipments, as well as the
Long Haul requirements. The cabling to and from the cross connect point is an up to 655
feet balanced multi-pair 22 AWG office cable with an attenuation to maximal 6dB.
The following section describes the criteria of the DS1 physical interface and signal
format covered in Bellcore GR 499, GR 253 and TR 191 specifications and how it can be
handled with the SIEMENS Framing and Line Interface Controler FALC-LH.
The Reference Board is interfaced with the network at the DSX-1 cross connect. The
criteria references for its conformance with the DS1 interface are as follows:
TR-TSY-000191:
Alarm Indication Signal Requirements and Objectives, Issue1, May 1986
GR-253-CORE:
SONET Transport Systems: Common Generic Criteria, Issue1, December 1994
GR-499-CORE:
Transport Systems Generic Requirements (TSGR): Common Requirements, Issue 1,
December 1995
Beside the electrical tests as pulse shape tests, frequency range and jitter tests the
specifications describe the requirements for functional tests as there are DS1 failure,
good signals and AIS detection criteria.
The software implemented for the DS1 tests provides indication messages available on
the PC and sends DS1 AIS upstream in certain situations. To determine the
conformance of the FALC to the different detection thresholds and time criteria the FALC
immediately inserts the AIS upstream upon detecting loss of signal (LOS) or out of frame
(OOF) and also immediately removes the AIS upon detecting a good signal.
