Interconnect System
The LC Backplane Connector System (BLC) is specifically
designed to provide a smooth transition from the PCB
mounted and pigtailed active devices (LED's, lasers, and
receivers) to the backplane fiber optic components using a
standard LC interface (half the size of the standard SC
interface). Pigtailed active devices, located anywhere on the
daughtercard, are terminated to the card edge mounted BLC
connectors. These BLC connectors provide a blind mating fiber
optic interface from two to eight multimode or singlemode
fibers. Interface through backplane BLC adapters, which are
available with either ceramic or metal sleeves and standard LC
input/output ports.
The BLC backplane connector system uses its generous axial
design, which allows the connectors to self-align inside the
adapter and provide physical contact. It also uses unique
mechanical latching to provide isolation between the card and
backplane, minimizing mechanical movement of the optical
interface during hot-swapping. The BLC connector system also
allows a great deal of flexibility. Its blind plug-in mating
interface provides easy insertion, removal, or exchange of the
daughtercard without disrupting the input/output ports and
the associated cabling.
