Instructions for the assembly of 3M™ Plug Connector
101XX-6000XX Series onto 3M Round Jacketed
Discrete Wire Cable 3600 or 3644 Series.
All items shown below are included in the basic unit
of the 3M MDR Hand Tool Kit 3829,

bench using the 3M™ Bench Clamp.

Cover set-up and installation
Place
correct cover stop here.
Number on the cover stop indicates
the correct connector size.
To install the slotted cover:
A. Close
cover locks.
B. Check
that slotted cover is forward.
C. Place
and push cover against cover stop.
D. Push
cover down and behind the cover lock.

Slide
cover lock in
to close and locate
the cover position.
Cable and Connector Termination
Step One
Backshells
-- remember to put them on.
Cable preparation – expose approximately three inches of cable.
Position
wires in cover slot by spreading individual wires
into color groups as directed by your wiring diagram.
Hold
the cable in the
cable clamp by
tightening this knob.
Position
3M™ Fixture Unit 3829-02
in 3M Hand Press 3829.
Place
cable into the clamp to
start the assembly process.
Place
wires over and through cover slots and into slots of
3M™ Fixture Unit 3829-03 with a pulling-down motion to
hold wire in place.
Install
3M™ Cutting
Unit 3829-05. Push it
in until it stops.
Place

cover on top of 3M™ Slotted Cover Assembly.
To assemble cover no. 2:
A. Rub
paper liner to assure adhesive transfer, then
remove paper liner.
B. Position
notched end of cover no. 2 toward
operator.
C. Press
cover no. 2 onto assembly in fixture unit.
Slide
3M™ Fixture Unit 3829-02, with the
completed assembly, into the hand press until the
fixture unit stops. Close the handles of the hand
press to terminate and trim the wires.
Completed Assembly of the Two Covers and Cable
A.
Hold
down the assembly when removing the cut wires.
B.
Remove
assembly from 3M™ Fixture Unit.
Step Two
Insert
3M™ Platen 3829-04 until it stops.
Insert
3M™ Locator Plate 3829-03.
Place
completed two cover/cable assemblies
into 3M™ Locator Plate 3829-03.
Align
the orientation of the connector
body and cover assembly.
Slide
3M™ Locator Plate 3829-03 into
back stop of 3M Hand Press 3829.
3M™ Hand
Press handles
A. Place
3M™ Gauge Block here.
B. Close
handles to complete connector termination.
C. Remove
harness. Termination is complete.
All completed assemblies
should be visually inspected.
