3M's E-9R crimping tool is the latest innovation in
industry-leading Scotchlok cable connection technology
for telecom applications. This lightweight, handheld tool
features single-stroke, parallel crimping action with a
work-saving 10:1 mechanical advantage over applied
hand force. The tool’s innovative ratchet-release design
indicates a positive crimp by automatically releasing after
each successful connection. An integrated wire cutter
allows the user to trim conductors prior to each
connection without changing tools. These features and
the tool’s ergonomic design enhance user productivity by
reducing fatigue and eliminating costly, time-consuming
mis-connects.
The E-9R crimping tool is compatible with all 3M
™
Scotchlok
™
Connectors including UY, UR, UY2, UR2,
UP2, UAL, UP3, UB, 211 and UB2A units across the
entire range of applicable wire sizes. This single tool
provides superior operating characteristics in a cost-
effective replacement for the model 3M
™
E-9E and E-9Y
Hand Crimping Tools.
Single-stroke, Ratchet-Release Action
The E-9R crimper’s unique single-stroke, ratchet-release
operation provides the craftsperson with a positive crimp
indication by releasing only after the connector has been
fully depressed and the connection made (see fig. 1) –
eliminating judgment calls by the craftsperson, possible
service disruptions or costly return trips. The E-9R
provides a complete, secure crimp every time.
Integrated Wire Cutter
The E-9R tool improves efficiency by enabling users to
effortlessly cut 26 AWG to 19 AWG (0.4-0.9 mm) copper
wire and crimp all 3M
™
Scotchlok
™
Connectors without
changing tools. To reduce the potential for misuse,
the cutting surface is segregated from the crimping jaws
and will not accept connectors. A spare blade and spring
pin are conveniently stored in the handle cap (see figure
2). Simply pry the cap off with a flat screwdriver for
access to the new blade or to temporarily store the
discarded blade.
Industrial-Strength Quality
The E-9R hand crimper is specifically designed to handle
the rigors of daily commercial use. It functions effectively
across a wide range of temperatures, withstands repeated
drops and is unaffected by exposure to common solvents.
The tool’s light-weight and ergonomic design minimize
user fatigue for more productive days in demanding high-
volume environments. All ratchet adjustments are made
at the factory and last the life of the tool. Field
maintenance consists of occasional cleaning and
lubrication. The tool is tested to 50,000 crimps with no
performance degradation, backed by 3M’s standard one-
year warranty.
