The term measurement uncertainty may sound confusing at first, but the concept is actually not difficult. In the 2012 edition of the International Glossary of Metrology, measurement uncertainty is defined as a non-negative parameter characterizing the dispersion that imparts to the value of a measured quantity, based on the information used.
