Outdoor solar automatic irrigation system

 
Overview

Background story: Once upon a time, TJR was a freshman in high school. The school was near a mountain and there was a large open space. One day, the leader had a sudden idea to engage in labor education and let TJR and his classmates grow vegetables. TJR saw that the ground was very dry and needed frequent watering, so he wanted to build an automatic irrigation system, so he came up with this project.


(1) Project details:

Function


  1. Soil moisture is detected every 30 minutes. When the number of probes reaching the humidity threshold is greater than or equal to the minimum number of probes to start watering, the watering program is started.
  2. Before watering, a sound will be played to warn people around you to stay away.
  3. When the watering time reaches the length of a single watering, watering will automatically stop
  4. If you stay on a non-main page (time page) for a long time without any operation, you will automatically switch to the main page.
  5. If there is no operation for a long time, the digital tube will automatically turn off (press the menu button to wake up)

Time setting method

  1. Before powering on, press and hold the setting button until the system self-test is completed (relays, etc. are turned off) and then let go.
  2. Enter the hour setting page and press the plus key to increase the hour.
  3. Press the setting key to enter the minute setting page, press the plus key to increase the minute
  4. Press the Set button to enter the save page, and press the Add button to save the time setting.

(2) Describe the challenges faced by the project and the problems solved:

Problems encountered:

  1. A servo was used to drive the ball valve, but during actual verification, it was found that if the system was powered off during watering, the water valve would not be able to be closed, resulting in an accident.
  2. When the water valve opens automatically, someone is in the watering area and gets wet.
  3. During the verification, only a single soil moisture probe was used, and it was found that part of the soil was dry, but only the area where the probe was located was wet, resulting in no watering solution:
  4. Change the ball valve to an electric ball valve. When watering, if the system is powered off, the ball valve can still close automatically to avoid accidents.
  5. Start the music module before watering to remind people around you to avoid it
  6. Add additional soil moisture probes and place them as far apart as possible

(3) Describe the key points involved in the hardware and software parts of the project

  1. Avoid watering at high temperatures such as noon and afternoon to avoid killing the plants.
  2. Prevent the soil moisture probe from being corroded by electrolysis if it is inserted into the soil for a long time.
  3. Starting from power saving, ensure that the system can work normally for 3 consecutive days without light.
  4. Prevent rainwater from penetrating into the system and causing system short circuit failure.
