What is a broadband multi-stage GaN-on-Si power amplifier module? What does it do? February 14, 2019, Lowell, Massachusetts, USA – MACOM Technology Solutions Inc. (“MACOM”), a leading global semiconductor solutions provider ) announced the launch of the new MAMG-100227-010 broadband power amplifier (PA) module, expanding its gallium nitride on silicon (GaN-on-Si) power amplifier (PA) product portfolio.
This wideband PA module is optimized and improved for use in Land Mobile Radio Systems (LMR), wireless public safety communications, and military tactical communications and electronic countermeasures (ECM). The MAMG-100227-010 PA module combines the efficient design of a 50Ω fully matched, two-stage PA architecture with top- and bottom-side mounting configurability, providing radios with unprecedented design flexibility to achieve tight size, weight and power ( SWaP) specifications.
The new MAMG-100227-010 PA module utilizes MACOM's high-performance GaN-on-Si to achieve an extremely wide frequency band of 225 - 2600 MHz, 10W continuous wave output power, up to 40% typical power added efficiency (PAE), and 22dB typical power gain , and operating voltage up to 36V (typically 28V). The compact 14x18 mm air pocket laminate package with integrated gold-plated copper heatsink avoids PA architecture mismatches and therefore eliminates the need for additional components and PCB space. In addition, its top and bottom mounting configurability helps improve the installation flexibility and thermal agility of the PA module.
Mark Murphy, Senior Marketing Director of RF Power and Base Stations at MACOM, said: "MACOM has extensive experience in creating high-performance GaN-on-Si solutions for customers and providing field-proven and reliable performance. On this basis, MACOM has launched MAMG-100227-010 PA module... For customers who pursue excellent design flexibility, MAMG-100227-010 perfectly demonstrates MACOM's design and application expertise in various broadband frequencies and power levels, demonstrating MACOM's control."
