DESCRIPTION
The SP307XE family contains differential line transceivers suitable for high speed bidirectional
communication on multipoint bus transmission lines. They are designed for balanced data
transmission and comply with both RS485 and RS422 EIA Standards. Each part contains one
differential driver and one differential receiver. SP3071E, SP3073E, SP3074E, SP3076E, and
SP3077E are full-duplex devices. SP3072E, SP3075E, and SP3078E are half-duplex devices.
SP3070E, SP3073E, SP3076E, and all half-duplex devices allow enable and disable both driver
and receiver independently. The high impedance driver output is maintained over the entire
common-mode voltage range from -7 to +12V.
The SP307XE family operates from a single 3.3V power supply. Excessive power dissipation
caused by bus contention or by output shorting is prevented by short-circuit protection and
thermal shutdown. This feature forces the driver output into high-impedance state if, during fault
conditions, the absolute value of the output current exceeds 250mA or the junction temperature
exceeds 165ºC.
Up to 256 transceivers may be connected simultaneously on a bus, but only one driver should
be enabled at a time.
The receiver contains a fail-safe feature that results in a logic high state if the inputs are
unconnected (floating), shorted or terminated.
The SP30XXE family is fabricated on BICMOS technology. All inputs and outputs have ESD
protection. Bus pins are ESD protected up to
±
15kV from Air-Gap and Human Body Model
Discharge and up to
±8kV
Contact discharge (IEC 1000-4-2).
