The Demand Controlled Ventilation People Counting Reference Design with 3D Time of Flight (ToF) is a subsystem solution that uses TI's 3D ToF image sensor and tracking and detection algorithms to count people in a given area, enabling high resolution and high precision. The sensor technology was developed in standard CMOS, enabling high levels of system integration at low system cost. Because ToF image sensors process visualization data in three dimensions, the sensor can detect the precise shape of the human body and track a person's movement and position (including minute changes in movement) with unprecedented accuracy. As a result, ToF cameras can perform real-time people counting and people tracking functions more efficiently than traditional surveillance cameras and video analytics.
