The PCAL6524 is a 24-bit general-purpose I/O expander that provides remote I/O expansion for most microcontroller families through a very Fast Mode (Fm+) I2C bus interface . The ultra-low voltage interface allows direct connection to microcontrollers operating with voltages as low as 0.8 V. NXP I/O expanders provide a simple solution when maintaining small interconnects while requiring additional I/O, for example, in battery-powered mobile applications for connecting accessories such as sensors, buttons, keyboards, etc.
In addition to providing a flexible set of GPIOs, the device simplifies the connection between processors running on voltage levels as low as 0.8V and I/O devices running on different voltage levels.
