50MHz frequency meter

This new 50MHz frequency meter features auto-range and displays frequencies in Hz, kHz, or MHz. This makes the device easy to read as it automatically selects the correct range for any frequency between 0.1Hz and 50MHz and correctly inserts the decimal point in each reading. Note that while we specify a maximum frequency of 50MHz for this frequency meter, most units are capable of measuring frequencies slightly higher. In fact, our prototype was able to measure frequencies up to 64MHz and above.

Frequency counters are used in almost every area of ​​electronics and are invaluable in repair and diagnostics. Beyond that, they are ideal for checking the operation of oscillators, counters, and signal generators. They can also be used to repair RF equipment or simply to provide accurate frequency readings for function generators. This design is also easy to build because it uses a programmable PIC microcontroller to handle all the intelligent functions. In addition, there is an LCD reader, several low-cost ICs, two transistors, a three-terminal regulator, and some miscellaneous components to complete the design.
