The 555 timer circuit shown in the figure will only produce an output when the trigger pulse is greater than the time constant of the monostable multivibrator (t=1.1RtCt). Q1 is usually closed. Pin 2 of the 555 timer then goes high. When the trigger pulse is on, the output at point C is very low. The positive trigger drives Q1 to turn on.
