Did you know that Toshiba has launched a new three-phase brushless motor control pre-drive IC? Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Corporation ("Toshiba") today announced the launch of the three-phase brushless motor control pre-drive IC "TC78B027FTG", which uses intelligent phase Control (InPAC) technology to achieve optimal operating efficiency in many applications such as high-speed server fans, blowers and pumps.
TC78B027FTG product map
In recent years, the capacity and performance of servers have continued to increase, which requires larger and faster fans to cool the excess heat generated by the equipment.
Similarly, small blowers, vacuum cleaners, and pumps use higher-power, high-speed impellers. TC78B027FTG is a brushless motor controller with pre-driver that can drive a variety of external MOSFETs to address the above challenges.
TC78B027FTG adopts intelligent phase control (InPAC) and closed-loop speed control technology. InPAC provides high-efficiency driving functions that help achieve phase synchronization of driving voltage and current to provide maximum actual power to the load. This operation is often impossible to achieve without using some kind of compensation mechanism. It is usually necessary to clarify the motor characteristics in advance and adjust the working status in real time to achieve the highest efficiency within the entire speed range. However, InPAC provides automated functions that can be initialized during design, thereby minimizing subsequent adjustment work and also helping to accelerate development progress.
Closed-loop speed control regulates and maintains motor speed under dynamic power fluctuations and load changes, a valuable feature for mission-critical applications such as server fans and other cooling applications. Toshiba accurately sets the speed curve through the built-in non-volatile memory (NVM), so that when using the TC78B027FTG, there is no need to rely on an external MCU to complete closed-loop speed control.
In addition, the TC78B027FTG solution simplifies motor selection. The TC78B027FTG requires only one Hall sensor input and can be used with a single Hall sensor motor or traditional 3 Hall sensor motors. The IC also uses Hall sensor analog or Hall IC digital signals for rotor position detection, which truly simplifies the user's motor selection task.
For low-power applications, designers can also consider the fully integrated driver version "TC78B025FTG", covering 16V/3.5A applications.
Main features
s Intelligent Phase Control optimizes efficiency across the entire operating range.
InPAC technology developed by Toshiba can automatically optimize high-efficiency drives for various speeds, thereby reducing the burden of adjustment work.
s can achieve stable speed even under interference
Closed-loop speed control regulates motor speed fluctuations caused by supply voltage and load changes. Since the IC has built-in NVM for setting the speed profile, no external MCU is required.
s Flexible for a variety of different power applications with appropriate external FETs
A variety of different FETs can be used, and the TC78B027FTG solution covers a wide range of low to medium power applications. The above is the analysis of Toshiba’s new three-phase brushless motor control pre-drive IC. I hope it can be helpful to everyone.
