Eight position Category 3 modular jack shall
terminate four conductors using positions 1, 2, 4
and 5 of an RJ48X interface. The jack shall have
shorting bars to avoid signal interruption when
plug is disengaged from jack. The jack shall
terminate 24 awg cable without requiring the use
of a punchdown tool.

The RJ48X connector is used for the
connection of 1.544 Mbps T1 digital service
lines. The RJ48X modular connector is an
8-position jack wired with four conductors
on 1/2/4/5, with a shorting bar that allows a
signal to pass from one pair to the other
when a plug is not inserted in the jack. The
shorting bar allows the user to disconnect
service without setting off the alarm at the
service provider, thus preventing costly
service and maintenance calls. The RJ48X
