In the world of the Internet of Things, every tiny node is a vital carrier of information. Deployed everywhere, they provide a continuous stream of data to support smart living. Communication between nodes relies on a key component : the radio frequency transceiver .

As the core communication component of IoT nodes, RF transceivers are responsible for sending and receiving RF signals.

During the receiving process, the RF transceiver first captures the wireless signal in the environment through the antenna, and then after filtering, low-noise amplification, frequency conversion and intermediate frequency amplification, the demodulator converts the analog signal into a digital signal for subsequent application.

During the transmission process, the RF transceiver converts the digital signal into an analog signal first, and then modulates, amplifies and filters it before sending it out through the antenna to complete the information exchange.

In practical applications, the performance of RF transceivers is directly related to the communication stability and reliability of IoT nodes. To ensure that IoT devices achieve longer standby time and wider coverage while maintaining communication quality, Avnet has launched a low-power RF transceiver module based on ST's ultra-low-power, high-performance sub-GHz transceiver S2-PL . This module offers ultra-low power consumption and long communication range for sub-1 GHz RF wireless applications, supporting four different modulation schemes and a programmable over-the-air data rate from 0.1 to 500 kbps, ensuring flexibility and efficiency in diverse application scenarios.

The S2-LP transceiver operates in a range of unlicensed ISM and SRD bands and can be programmed to operate on other frequencies within the 413-479 MHz, 452-527 MHz, 826-958 MHz, and 904-1055 MHz bands, providing users with a wide range of options for smart home, building automation, and industrial monitoring and control applications. The S2-LP can easily handle these applications, ensuring stable communication connections.

In addition to programmable automatic packet acknowledgment and retransmission, the S2-LP is equipped with a CSMA/CA engine, a low-duty-cycle protocol, an RX sniffing mode, and a timeout protocol engine. These features combine to achieve extremely low system power consumption and extremely high communication reliability. In addition, by integrating an antenna switching algorithm, the S2-LP fully supports antenna diversity, further enhancing communication stability and reliability.

More notably, the S2-LP boasts an RF link budget exceeding 140 dB and complies with regulatory requirements in countries and regions such as Europe, Japan, China, and the United States, enabling smooth global deployment. Furthermore, the S2-LP supports systems with channel spacing as low as 1 kHz, enabling operation in narrowband environments and further addressing the needs of specific application scenarios.

Avnet's low-power RF transceiver module, based on the ST S2-LP, provides users with a stable and reliable RF transceiver solution. With its high performance, low power consumption, and excellent communication performance, it has broad application prospects in IoT fields such as industrial automation, smart homes, and smart buildings. Avnet will continue to deepen its presence in the communications sector and lead the development of the IoT industry with innovation.
