One of the significant advantages of a Power System Management (PSM) system is its highly integrated fault management and event logging capabilities .

In this system, the LTC2971 plays a key role in enabling complete fault detection, response, and data retention.

The LTC2971 supports real-time monitoring of multiple key parameters. When the output voltage or temperature deviates from the set range, the system can execute different strategies according to the pre-configured settings, including latching shutdown, automatic restart, or controlled power-off, thereby ensuring that the system can maintain safe behavior under abnormal conditions.

More importantly, the LTC2971 continuously caches system state and telemetry data in its Random Access Memory (RAM ). Upon detecting any fault event, the chip immediately saves this real-time operational information to a non-volatile EEPROM. This "power black box" mechanism comprehensively records snapshots of critical data such as voltage, current, and temperature at the moment of the fault, providing invaluable evidence for subsequent root cause analysis.

As shown in the conceptual diagram (Figure 21) in the LTC2971 datasheet , when a fault is triggered, the internal circular data buffer is automatically copied and written to the EEPROM. Unlike the simple alarm mechanism of traditional PMBus devices that only reports "a fault has occurred," the LTC2971's PSM system stores complete operating status information, not just fault flag bits.

These advanced logging and health monitoring features significantly enhance the system reliability of the QB solution, supporting performance evaluation throughout the product lifecycle and extending product lifespan through continuous data tracking mechanisms.
