Microchip MOST® technology arrives on the Pagani Huayra BC supercar

World-leading sports cars utilize MOST technology

Creating high-fidelity surround sound audio and a feature-rich infotainment system


Recently, one of the world's most technologically advanced sports cars adopted System Transmission for Media (MOST®) technology to support its in-vehicle high-fidelity surround sound audio and infotainment system. This is the Huayra BC, the top-of-the-line supercar from Pagani Automobili SpA, and the MOST Intelligent Network Interface Controller (INIC) is provided by Microchip Technology Inc., a leading global provider of integrated microcontrollers, mixed-signal, analog devices, and flash memory solutions.

From compact cars to ultra-high-end sports cars like the Huayra BC, infotainment systems across all vehicle types have begun to adopt MOST INIC. Pagani, on the other hand, uses the Microchip OS81050 INIC device to transmit video, audio, data packets, and control data throughout the vehicle.

The MOST Cooperation standard enables automotive OEMs and their Tier 1 suppliers to ensure the highest quality multi-channel digital audio transmission. It is a mature and well-supported standard for designing and deploying high-bandwidth infotainment systems, while also providing a robust approach to system management and control with superior reliability and Quality of Service (QoS). Furthermore, MOST technology uses lightweight plastic optical fiber (POF) to transmit control and audio data, thus contributing to reduced vehicle weight.

To facilitate development, MOST technology offers a complete ecosystem of tools, software, and support, including the OptoLyzer® MOCCA series and OptoLyzer Studio software development tools from tool provider K2L; the MOSTLinux® driver or MOST NetServices software protocol stack; MOST Check for schematic and wiring inspection; and multimedia auxiliary IC products with video encoding, DTCP content protection, I/O expansion, and power management capabilities.
