Microchip delivers its 50 millionth 50 Mbps automotive intelligent network interface controller with MOST® technology.
Microchip Technology Inc. today announced that it has shipped its 50 millionth 50 Mbps Intelligent Network Interface Controller (INIC) using MOST® technology. Microchip's MOST50 technology includes an ePHY layer ideally suited for unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) copper wire applications, and has been implemented on numerous vehicle platforms, from compact cars to luxury SUVs. Major automakers such as General Motors and Toyota are currently using this technology.
MOST technology is a mature, reliable, well-defined, and widely used network solution suitable for broadband in-vehicle infotainment systems. MOST technology provides predictable and efficient transmission support for audio, video, data packets, and control data, eliminating the need for cumbersome time synchronization protocols. For audio and video data, the Microchip INIC provides a direct connection to the infotainment network and module application hardware interface, reducing processor overhead, simplifying data communication, and supporting applications without remotely controlled processors.
"Reaching the 50 millionth wafer milestone is a significant achievement for MOST50 technology and demonstrates the global recognition and widespread adoption of MOST networking technology," said Dan Termer, Vice President of Microchip's Automotive Information Systems Group. "We will continue to work with major automakers around the world to implement MOST technology."
The MOST collaborative standard supports automotive OEMs and their Tier 1 suppliers in using mature, reliable, and well-supported methods for system management and control, enabling the development of highly reliable infotainment systems with high Quality of Service (QoS). MOST technology has been implemented in 220 vehicle models worldwide and is adopted by all major automotive OEMs.
