The MAX6970 is an 8-port, 36V constant current LED driver using a 4-wire serial interface. Using the information provided in this application note, the MAX6970 is used with the MAXQ2000 16-bit RISC microcontroller to obtain a variety of simple LED sequencing when selecting different buttons.
The circuit discussed in this application note was built using the MAX6970EVKIT and MAXQ2000-KIT . The MAX6970 evaluation (EV) board schematic is shown in Figure 1. The MAXQ2000 evaluation board is included in the MAX6970 EV kit design. However, an independent MAXQ2000 circuit board is used in this design because the MAXQ2000 evaluation board has a button function and can be used to control LED sequencing.
