Introduction to GPIB:
       A GPIB device may be a speaker, listener or controller. The speaker always sends data information to one or more listeners. The listeners receive this data. The controller manages this information by sending instructions to all devices on GPIB. . A digital multimeter is both a speaker and a listener.
  GPIB is a bit like an ordinary computer bus. The difference is that the computer circuit boards are all interconnected through the motherboard, while GPIB has an independent device that is interconnected through standard cables.
  The role of the GPIB controller can be compared with the role of the computer's CPU, but it may be more appropriate to compare it with a telephone switch.
  The switch (controller) monitors the communication of the network (GPIB). When the switch (controller) notices that a client (device) wants to call (send a data message), it connects the caller (speaker) and the recipient. The listener (listener) connects.
  The controller usually determines the address of the speaker and the listener before the speaker can send his or her message to the listener (or enables them to do so). After sending this information, the controller can then send the address to other speakers and listeners. The listener has determined the address.
Some GPIB devices do not require a controller. For example, a device that is always a talker, also known as a talk-only device, does not require a controller when it is connected to one or more listen-only devices.
  Only when an activated or addressed speaker or listener wants to change identity, a controller must be used, and the controller's functions are usually handled by a computer.
  A computer with the appropriate hardware and software can function as both speaker/listener and controller.
 
 
 
 IEEE488.2 defines the programming instructions to perform these operations and the query method for receiving common status information.
