About HPDL-1414

The LED four-digit ASCII character display component introduced by HP in the last century. Due to its simplicity and ease of use and excellent display effect, it has now become a good choice for electronic DIY and nostalgia.

About the display module

4-link HPDL-1414 display module. The module itself only has pins out to minimize size and complexity, so that it can be easily welded or plugged into your final product or solution verification version.

Pin definition

name Function describe
VCC Power +5V voltage input serves as module power supply.
GND Ground Ground.
NC Not Connect Leave floating or ground, this pin is not connected to internal lines.
A00-A01 Input Display location selection. Corresponds to the A0 - A1 pins of HPDL-1414.
D00-D06 Input Show data entry. Corresponds to the D0 - D6 pins of HPDL-1414.
W00-W03 Input Display component selection. Correspond to the WR pins of HPDL-1414 from left to right.

About supporting verification board

The supporting verification board uses ATMEGA-328P-PU microcontroller, comes with USB download (you need to burn the Bootloader by yourself), and leads to the I2C interface and 5 GPIOs with ADC, making it rich in scalability. When the verification board is used as an I2C host, it can be connected to various external sensors or RTCs. At this time, the verification board can become a simple and non-redundant clock, thermometer and other desktop ornaments; when the verification board is used as an I2C slave, it can appear as a Common and easy-to-use I2C display to integrate into your other projects (the above functions require self-programming).

New version description: Reproduce the reset circuit and lead out 5 unused GPIOs with ADC (including IIC interface pins).

About the Arduino library

This library is designed for a single HPDL-1414 component, but is also suitable for operation with multiple HPDL-1414s. This library is developed with the object-oriented concept in mind and encapsulates common operations so that users can complete development without caring about any details.


Regarding usage instructions: See the NDoc comments in HPDL1414.h for details. Visual Stdio users can check the descriptions of each constant and method directly in the IDE.

About supporting routines

This routine is developed using the Arduino environment and uses the Iris.HPDL1414 library. The content is to scroll the first natural segment of "Alice in Wonderland" and is adapted to the supporting verification board. The program is concise and clear, with detailed annotations, making it very suitable for secondary development.
