USB-HUB MA8601/FE1.1S TYPE-C special version

 
Overview

aim of design:

  At work, we often encounter debugging tools from various manufacturers and our own auxiliary tools that use different interfaces.

  Various types of data cables will be used: square port (USB-B type), MINI_USB, MICRO_USB. You will have a handful of data cables on hand.

  I need two things, 1: USB_HUB is specifically used to pull my various tools. 2: Dedicated line, others cannot use my line without my HUB.

  In extreme debugging situations, I have used MCUs from three manufacturers, which means that I almost use three debuggers (simulation tools) and a logic analyzer (used to capture SPI) at the same time. In such a situation, a USBHUB is required. Make up one of this theme (one USB_HUB hub can be connected to four).

  In many cases, there are not many data lines. Ask your colleagues to borrow them. They will borrow them from you when they need them. Generally, they will never come back. The second part of this theme (specificity, only I can use it, but none of you can use it)

Design ideas and ideas:

  1: USB_HUB one to four, choose the USB2.0 solution. The price of USB3.0 is really ugly.

  1.1: USB_HUB solution selection

        1: I chose SL2.1A at the beginning for no other reason than I found it randomly. The external circuit is really simple.

              But when I came back with the second version of the pcb (don't ask about the first version, the wrong lines were drawn and it was useless), I found that everything else was fine. The Nuvoton development board I had had no problem with it, but the debugging of Huimang Micro The tool just doesn't work.

              I suspected it was a differential wiring problem, but after thinking about it, I soldered the two data lines directly to the chip pins. If it still didn't work, I decided to change the solution.

        2: I have a USB_HUB from n years ago. The solution is MA8601. Just solder wires directly on the hub to connect the writer, OJBK, no problem. Then change to this plan and check again. This thing is to replace FE1.1S. Then use FE1.1S to draw. Using MA8601 will only reduce the number of things, so it doesn’t hurt. Because the MA601 solution has more peripherals than the SL2.1A, single-sided wiring is a little more difficult. Anyway, the size of the board has increased, making it much easier to work with. The wiring is a little more casual. I don’t have USB wiring experience, so I can do this just fine. After receiving an mp4, the writing speed can reach 6MB/S.

  2: This thing is definitely not directly plugged into the computer with a USB male connector. Because one-to-four is a bit bulky, they cannot stand together next to the USB port.

        Then connect it with a USB cable. It is convenient for me to use a type-c cable to connect to the USB_HUB. After all, there are usually two type-c data cables in the office. I have two at home.

  3: One to four, four outputs, the conventional USB_A female socket cannot be used for two reasons; 1: Large size. 2: This way you can’t play exclusively.

  4: Stack two boards up and down, separated by isolation columns, and the distance between the two boards is 11mm. In this way, both the upper and lower USBs can be plugged in without interference.

        The top and bottom layers are isolated on the outside with two empty PCBs without wiring, forming a top panel + top panel (2usb) + bottom panel (2usb + 1usb) + bottom panel.

        The smaller the size, the better. But because the first version before, it almost felt a bit square and not that thin. Personally I really don't like that. It feels lacking in beauty.
        I still like the rectangular shape of something, and you can even refer to the golden ratio.

  5: I drew it within the size of 10cm*10cm. I had a small table saw and file on hand. After cutting the board, I sharpened it a little.

  6: In terms of circuit, the LED6 USB input status indicator light has two resistors, one from 5V and one from the chip control, choose one of the two.

        LED indicators are originally side-emitting light-emitting diodes. Recently, the epidemic express has not arrived. You can also use 0805. The color of the light is personal preference, and the brightness can be selected by yourself.

       The resistors of CC1 and CC2 are used to pull up the TYPE-C interface of some computers.

  7: Follow-up thoughts:

        a: The FE1.1S solution is still a bit complicated, but the FE8.1 solution is quite simple and will be adjusted later.

        b: Find a suitable USB3.0HUB chip and change the solution to USB3.0.

        c: Integrate an isolated USB to serial port, try a non-optocoupler logic chip, but the size will definitely increase a bit, after all, the isolated DCDC power supply takes up some space. As for things like 485, I have no need for it at the moment.

        d: Integrate a power meter. The display, buttons, MOS, and op amp (not necessarily, you can use the built-in op amp of the MCU) are fully protected, with sufficient current limiting protection and short circuit protection.

        e: There are many things to do if you hang a screen. You can use it as a simple auxiliary debugging tool to communicate with the products you usually debug and display data. Single-line analog half-duplex communication, serial port, I2C format communication is used to receive data.
