Win2000 Power Management Status Diagnosis [Copy link]

1. Brief Introduction

There are many materials on the settings and usage of the Advanced Power Management (APM), as well as its development history and evolution, so there is no need to repeat them here. All that needs to be explained is that APM refers to the management function, and there was no corresponding operation interface in the operating system in the early days . Later, especially starting from Windows 95, APM was widely used in microcomputers, and there was an urgent need for a corresponding operation interface so that ordinary users could easily perform power management settings. This is how ACPI (Advanced Configuration Interface for Power Management) was introduced. Now most computers can support both APM and ACPI.

In Windows 2000, APM supports battery management and can put the running machine into a standby state to save power or resume use from a standby state. Such things are familiar to everyone and nothing new. What is introduced here is a command line tool that can be used to diagnose the status of advanced power management in the command line state. Using this status information, you can find and eliminate power management problems.

In Windows 2000, there are several ways to perform operations related to power management: A. BIOS settings. B. Registry settings. C. In the control panel, use the advanced power management configuration interface to set. In fact, the effects of using the interface settings and modifying the registry settings are the same. In order to facilitate those users who are not able to edit the registry, the graphical interface, namely the advanced power management configuration interface, was introduced. Since advanced power management involves BIOS settings and registry settings, the power status diagnostic program will list the power management-related settings in the BIOS and the corresponding settings in the registry in the report file it generates.

2. Grammar and Application

Of all the support tools, this one probably has the simplest syntax, with only one command and two switches. The complete syntax is as follows:
  apmstat [-v] [-?]
  Command and parameter description:
  apmstat
command file name, a required part, cannot be omitted.
  -v
displays the results of power management settings: including information related to power management in the BIOS and the registry.
  -?
displays the syntax and help information used by the command.
To execute the command, you should first open the so-called command console: cmd, then type the command after the system prompt: apmstat –v and press Enter. You will get the corresponding display information. The following is a screen report I copied after executing the command on my own machine and displaying the results: (The Chinese characters are added by me)

C:\Program Files\Support Tools>apmstat -v
This computer appears to have an APM legal HAL This computer's APM has a legal hardware abstraction layer
