200W MOSFET Amplifier

A compact audio power source, ideal for guitar or PA (public address) work, or as a general-purpose subwoofer or hi-fi amplifier. Many prefer MOSFETs due to their legendary robustness. Altronics has a MOSFET amplifier module that outputs 200W at a 4-ohm load, so we decided to check it out. It turned out to be based on the aforementioned "Pro Series One," although this version from Altronics has lowered the ratings and adapted different MOSFETs. Its rated power output is 140W into 8 ohms and 200W into 4 ohms. The frequency response is within 1dB over the 20Hz to 80kHz range. Total harmonic distortion is rated at less than 0.1% at full power, and the signal-to-noise ratio is better than 100dB unweighted relative to 200W.
