What is a chipset for short-range optical connectivity applications? What does it do? MACOM’s quad-channel VCSEL driver (MALD-38435) and TIA (MATA-38434) complement existing quad-channel CDRs and enable complete interoperability. Operational solutions
All-analog solution delivers high performance, low power and low cost
MACOM will demonstrate 400Gbps chipset solutions with Dust Photonics at OFC 2018 at booth #2613
Lowell, MA, March 12, 2018 - MACOM Technology Solutions Inc. ("MACOM") today announced the launch of quad-channel 56 Gb/s PAM for VCSEL-based short-reach optical module and active optical cable (AOC) applications -4 Samples of the VCSEL driver (MALD-38435) and its companion quad transimpedance amplifier (TIA) (MATA-38434) device. These new devices complement previously released transmit and receive clock data recovery (CDR) devices to enable complete transmit and receive solutions. For MACOM chipset solutions, data rates up to 56 Gb/s PAM-4 per channel (28GBbaud PAM-4) enable short reach (up to 100m) for 200G QSFP and 400G QSFP-DD and OSFP applications ) optical module.
As 100G connectivity requirements continue to evolve into 200G and 400G, optical module vendors are looking to adopt small form factor, low power consumption and low-cost optical connectivity solutions for cloud data centers and high-performance computing (HPC) clusters. MACOM's all-analog chipset solution uses the MALD-38435 driver and MATA-38434 TIA along with existing MASC-38040 and MAOM-38051/38053 CDR devices to provide customers with the best combination of high performance, low power consumption and low cost. MACOM's solution leverages all-analog circuitry (rather than digital signal processing capabilities) to achieve best-in-class low latency, which is especially important for high-performance computing applications.
The MALD-38435 driver and MATA-38434 device are available as chip-scale solutions (250um channel pitch), ideal for direct interfacing to VCSEL lasers and photodetectors. This type of device supports individual channel control through the I2C interface and can be flexibly managed through the module's local control chip. These devices feature low power consumption, small die size, and are implemented in QSFP and QSFP-DD modules. They also feature low jitter performance, enabling 1E-15 low bit error rate (BER) and FEC protected links. Used in conjunction with MACOM's CDR, this solution provides rich per-channel equalization and eye shape programmability, as well as PRBS generator, checker and eye pattern monitor functionality.
“Following the success of our 100Gbps chipsets for short-reach applications, MACOM is excited to introduce a new generation of devices for 400Gbps QSFP-DD and OSFP modules,” said Marek Tlalka, Senior Marketing Director, High Performance Analog Products, MACOM. "Using our analog circuit technology, we are able to deliver complete chipsets for high-performance, short-reach optical interconnects at low power, low cost and low latency - critical for cloud computing and HPC applications."
MACOM will showcase new chipset solutions at OFC 2018 via Dust Photonics’ QSFP-DD modules.
“We are excited to showcase our industry-leading 400G QSFP-DD-SR8 short-reach module powered by the MACOM chipset,” said Ben Rubovitch, CEO of Dust Photonics. "MACOM's fully interoperable solutions and strong technical support shorten our product time to market. We look forward to expanding our product portfolio to other optical modules and AOC applications." The above is the chipset analysis for short-distance optical connection applications , hope it can help everyone.
