Aggregation Media Converter – 2x Ethernet, 2x RS422
The Glenair 050-505 is a Media Converter that aggregates (combines) two
Ethernet ports (10/100/1000BASE-T) and two RS422 ports and then converts
these signals in to a high-speed serial stream for transport over fiber with one fiber
dedicated for transmission and a second fiber for receiving. The 050-505 is
designed outstanding performance in harsh environments and incorporates
electronics in an environmentally sealed enclosure that incorporates two
environmentally sealed connectors. One Might Mouse connector is used to supply
power and electrical data signals and a Glenair High Density connector is used for
the Fiber Optic signals. The 050-505 can be configured to use either single mode
or multi-mode optics.

Built In Test (BIT) Functionality - Optional Features
This media converter can be offered with built in test functionality accessible through a Console Port via Universal Serial
Bus 2.0 (USB 2.0) or via RS-422 UART (TXD) or both options can be made available. Functional block diagram for this
is shown below.

Presents itself as a “Virtual” Communications Port
Compatible with Microsoft Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux OS’s.
On the computer side, open any terminal application (PuTTY, HyperTERM, TeraTERM, etc.) to communicate with
the signal aggregator hardware.
Simple “Human Readable” status messages.
UART BIT
Useful for when you are interfacing with an embedded microprocessor or microcontroller.
Status messages delimitated to allow for easy parsing by embedded software.
