Enabling people to enjoy a better work and life through advanced technology has always been Avnet's goal. Throughout history, the emergence of major new technologies has often brought about revolutionary changes to the production and lifestyles of the entire society.

The rapid development of deep learning and artificial intelligence has ushered in the Industry 4.0 wave, and the transformation of the manufacturing industry towards "intelligent manufacturing" has become an unstoppable and irreversible trend. In an era of shortening product lifecycles and increasing consumer personalization demands, "intelligent manufacturing" has established a highly flexible and personalized product production and service model through the automation and intelligence of production systems and processes, production management, and logistics supply.

In November 2017, the " 2017 IAS Industrial Automation Exhibition " was held in Shanghai, attracting many companies dedicated to promoting industry development, including Xilinx, a global strategic partner of Avnet, to participate and showcase solutions in various aspects such as production and process automation, electrical systems, robotics, industrial IT and manufacturing informatization, and microsystems technology.

Industrial robots are undoubtedly one of the hallmarks of intelligent production systems and processes. Flexible, stable, and high-performance industrial robots can replace humans in various repetitive, dangerous, or heavy-duty tasks. In today's rapidly aging society, they can not only make up for labor shortages, reduce social production costs, and improve efficiency, but also free up labor, allowing them to devote their energy and time to more valuable and meaningful work.

At the exhibition, in line with the theme " Xilinx Makes Factories Smarter ," Avnet showcased two reference solutions that leverage Xilinx products to enhance the performance of industrial robots, hoping that increasingly powerful robots can make greater contributions to humanity.

Firstly, there's the Avnet ZYNQ platform motor control solution, which enhances the performance of mechanical control systems and increases ease of use and flexibility. In applications such as robotic arms, this solution enables high-precision and high-speed movements with higher integration.

  • Supports multi-axis motor control applications

  • Supports industrial real-time Ethernet

  • Supports sensorless control

This solution is based on Avnet's Zedboard (7Z020), utilizes a standard vector control RTL library, runs motor control algorithms in FPGA logic, can run Linux and TCP/IP networks, and uses a motor control graphical interface developed based on QT.

Secondly, there is the Avnet ZYNQ platform's vision/infrared sensor fusion solution, which enhances the visual sensor capabilities. This solution not only boasts higher integration and performance but also supports image processing, enabling the functional fusion of visual and infrared images. It can be widely applied in industrial automation production fields using machine vision, such as defect detection.

  • Based on Avnet's PicoZed Embedded Vision Development Kit (7Z030)

  • Based on Xilinx's latest SDSOC development tools

  • Implement Sobel edge extraction functionality for visual images

  • Implement warp and resize for infrared images

At this exhibition, eight industrial solutions under the theme "Xilinx Makes Factories Smarter" were showcased, covering the latest Xilinx reVISION stack pedestrian detection example, motor control, smart logistics, sensor fusion, POWERLINK open automation, EtherCAT/RTEX bus controller, robot vision positioning and multi-axis drive control, and other cutting-edge solutions.

Meanwhile, during the exhibition, Avnet arranged for several technical experts to provide explanations and demonstrations to attendees, attracting many visitors to actively participate and exchange ideas.
