FPGAs, microprocessors, DS2482-100 , and DS2480B are common 1-Wire host devices. 1-Wire / i Button® slave devices are manufactured by Maxim. This family of devices typically operates from 2.8V to 5.25V. In the past, traditional 1-Wire master and slave devices used 5V open-drain logic.
Now, designers need 1-Wire host IO to provide 1.8V open-drain logic. While most 1-Wire slave devices can safely operate at 5V, the vast majority of them cannot operate at 1.8V. A bidirectional level converter is required to overcome this limitation. This reference design (RD) uses Maxim®'s MAX3394E bidirectional level translator to solve the problems in this type of application.
