Maxim's MAXREFDES99# is an Arduino ® form factor expansion board designed to drive a 16x16 LED matrix in signage applications. The design is ideal for developing display applications. The board uses Maxim's renowned MAX7219 driver, which simplifies the process of controlling multiple LEDs in arrays or digital display formats. In MAXREFDES99#, four MAX7219 ICs are configured in a daisy chain to drive a complete 256-point LED array, allowing the array to display any international characters. The board comes standard with four 8x8 LED displays.
Provides MAXREFDES99# code that supports Arduino and ARM ® mbed TM platforms, allowing rapid development of product prototypes using circuit boards of multiple platforms. System demonstrations include displaying the ASCII characters 'space' through '~', and writing/scrolling string messages. Developers are encouraged to build and enhance the code base.
