In many networking and telecommunications applications, there are multiple regulated power supply voltages. Many supply voltage requirements provide high current, reasonable size and efficiency, and excellent load transient response. This article provides a detailed reference design using the MAX5066 dual-buck controller with a switching frequency of 300kHz. The key specifications of this reference design are listed below, along with the detailed circuit schematic ( Figure 1 ) and bill of materials ( Table 1 )
required in the application .
V IN = 5.15V (-0.4V, +0.4V)
V OUT1 = 1.2V ±48mV/I OUT1 = 0 to 8.5A (including transients)
Output voltage ripple of converter 1: 12mV P-P
Load transient response of Converter 1: 18mV P-P when load changes from 10% to 60%
V OUT2 = 3.3V ±132mV/I OUT2 = 0 to 4.4A (including transients)
Output voltage ripple of converter 2: 27mV P-P
Load transient response of converter 2: 40mV P-P when the load changes from 10% to 60%
Composite efficiency of converters 1 and 2: 93.38% at full load
Temperature range: -40°C to +85°C
Figure 1. The MAX5066 reference design shows a 5.1V to 1.2V/8.5A and 3.3V/4.4A dc-to-dc converter; f SW = 295kHz.
