The STEVAL-LLL008V1 reference design is a dual-stage LED driver with high power factor targeting 100w LED lighting applications using 6LoWPAN Mesh networks.
The front-end flyback converter provides high power factor and low THD, enabling CV primary side regulation (PSR) with the input of the auxiliary winding on the transformer (via the ZCD pin on the HVLED001B controller), thus eliminating the need for an isolated optocoupler. The flyback converter can deliver 105 W at an average output voltage of 79 V and a maximum voltage fluctuation of 1.8 V.
The converter can provide a reverse buck-stage power supply output, providing a regulated 1.4 A current to the LED driver load. The secondary transformer is also capable (a few milliamperes, via an auxiliary choke) of supplying the required voltage to the HVLED002 controller; the HVLED002 controller manages the reverse step-down circuit to provide current limiting for dimming and on/off control.
STEVAL-LLL008V1 integrates the STM32L071KZ microcontroller, which is capable of receiving remote on/off and dimming commands through the built-in SPSGRFC sub-1 GHz transceiver module. Connectivity capabilities can be extended to multiple lighting nodes within a 6LowPAN mesh.
A data concentrator unit (DCU) and mobile Android app are provided to help you further explore the LED lighting reference design. The DCU consists of the NUCLEO-F401RE development platform, the X-NUCLEO-IDS01A4 (for sub 1-GHz communication with the LED driver board), and the X-NUCLEO-IDB05A2 board (for Bluetooth communication with mobile devices).
STMicroelectronics’ 6LoWPAN Smart Streetlight mobile app (available from the Google Play app store) collects lighting nodes (represented by microcontrollers and RF modules on the evaluation board) in a 6LoWPAN mesh network.
