Amethyst is a classic home computer developed by Matt Sarnoff. It has an integrated keyboard, can generate sounds and images, uses the Forth programming language, has image and voice commands, a debugger and screen editing functions.
This computer requires only 6 chips (ATmega1284, FT320X, 2x 74HC157 and 2x 74HC166), the keyboard is soldered directly to the board, and also supports audio and four serial I/O links for peripheral tasks such as game control or storage device. The overall circuit is as follows:
This computer provides a command line interface that allows users to perform various operations. What’s even more interesting is that the computer also comes with a game. In the game, players play the role of the robot "#" and search for "kitten" from a large number of recommended characters.
