Chip solution DC-DC chip APW8828QBI-TRG
Modular PCB
Input voltage: 7-28v (test 12V)
Output voltage: 0.7-5.5v (default setting 5v)
Output current: 4A (the inductor is limited to a maximum of 5A, large currents require sufficient heat dissipation)
Switching frequency: 290 kHz switching frequency
The APW8828 is a single-phase, constant time, synchronous PWM controller driving N-channel MOSFETs. The APW8828 is used to generate low-voltage chipsets or RAM power supplies in notebook computers for computer applications.
APW8828 provides excellent transient response and accurate DC voltage output in PFM or PWM mode.
In pulse frequency mode (PFM), the APW8828 provides load-modulated switching frequency and is very efficient at light to heavy loads.
In order to reduce noise in pulse width modulation mode, the converter is required to operate at almost a constant frequency.
The APW8828 features precise positive current limit, output undervoltage and output overvoltage protection, making it ideal for NB applications.
The power-on reset function monitors the voltage on VCC to prevent incorrect operation at power-up.
The APW8828 has a 1 ms digital soft start and built-in integrated output soft stop emission method. The internally integrated soft-start is programmable to increase the output voltage and reduce the slew rate of the starting current. The soft-stop feature actively discharges the output capacitor for reverse inductor current.
