Overview
The simplest direct measurement method uses a shunt (series) current-sense resistor to measure current, which is characterized by simplicity and linearity. According to Ohm's law, V = I x R, the voltage across the resistor represents the current magnitude. For high-current precision applications such as automotive battery management, Vishay offers specialized shunt resistors such as the WSBS8518L1000JK, available as standalone devices or integrated into a molded housing (WSBM8518L1000JK) for easy PC board connection.
