“The wonderful thing about standards is the choice.” Grace Hopper 1
Over the years, there has been a proliferation of standards, especially in our electronics industry. Have you ever wondered why some standards end up with weird numbers that seem to have nothing to do with logical units of measurement? Debate rages over whether the diameter of the space shuttle's solid-fuel rocket thrusters was actually derived from the width of a horse's ass. 2 is quite strange and interesting. But it's more productive to accept the truth: there will always be many standards, and we have to find ways to make them work well together. Engineers and manufacturers alike cover a common area: prototyping platforms, where incompatible standards are particularly troublesome. Fortunately, the MAXREFDES72# reference design alleviates this incompatibility.
