Overview
The MAX1606 is a boost DC-DC converter that includes an 8-pin μMAX® package with a 0.5A internal power switch and an output isolation switch®. The IC operates from a 2.4V to 5.5V supply but can boost battery voltage from 0.8V to 28V. The MAX1606 employs a unique control scheme that delivers high efficiency under a wide range of load conditions. An internal 0.5A MOSFET reduces the number of external components, and a high switching frequency (up to 500kHz) allows the use of tiny surface-mount components. Current limits can be set to 500mA, 250mA, or 125mA, allowing users to reduce output ripple and component size in low-current applications. Other features include low quiescent supply current and a true shutdown mode, saving power by disconnecting the input from the output. The MAX1606 is ideal for small LCD panels with low current requirements but can also be used in other applications.
