Mixed Signal Digital Predistortion (MSDPD) Platform

 
Overview

At present, digital predistortion technology has become a mainstream technology for improving the efficiency of power amplifiers and is widely used in mobile communication systems. The efficiency of the traditional 3G air interface LDMOS power amplifier is only about 15%. Using digital predistortion technology can increase the efficiency to about 45%, which can save considerable costs for a huge base station network.

The high-performance digital predistortion platform provided by ADI includes a transmit link and a predistortion receive link. The main components are:

clock and local oscillator
ADF4002: phase detector/PLL frequency synthesizer
AD9516: 14-channel output clock generator
ADF4351: integrated Wideband Frequency Synthesizer for VCO
ADF4350: Wideband Frequency Synthesizer with Integrated VCO

Transmit Link
AD9122: Dual Channel, 16-Bit, 1200 MSPS, TxDAC+® Digital-to-Analog Converter
ADL5375: 400 MHZ to 6 GHZ Wideband Quadrature Modulator
ADL5541: RF /Intermediate frequency (RF/IF) gain block, operating 50 MHz to 6 GHz, 15 dB gain
AD5611: 10-bit nanoDAC® digital-to-analog converter
ADL5320: 400 MHz to 2700 MHz ¼ W RF driver amplifier

predistortion receive chain
ADL5365: 1200 MHz to 2500 MHz balanced mixer with built-in high-end local oscillator (LO) buffer and RF balun
ADL5367: 900 MHz balanced mixer with built-in high-end local oscillator (LO) buffer and RF balun
AD8375: Ultra-low distortion IF VGA
AD9434: 12-bit, 370 MSPS/500 MSPS analog-to-digital converter
AD6641: 250 MHz bandwidth DPD observation receiver
