With the development of energy storage applications for high-voltage energy, industrial and automotive fields, such as wind power, photovoltaic cells and hybrid vehicles, the application of lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries has become increasingly common, thus stimulating the demand for safer and more reliable energy storage. The need for high-performance battery monitoring and protection systems. Lithium-ion battery packs contain a large number of cells that must be properly monitored to improve battery efficiency, extend battery life and ensure safety.
This reference design implements the functions required for lithium-ion battery monitoring, including voltage, current and temperature measurement, signal isolation and safety monitoring, and can meet the various needs of lithium battery manufacturers and power system designers.
The main chips used in this reference design are:
• AD7280A Li-ion battery monitor integrating all functions required for general-purpose monitoring of Li-ion cells
• ADuM1401 quad-channel digital isolator using Analog Devices' iCoupler® technology
• ADuM5401 isolated Σ -Δ modulator
