The TIDA-00771 is a 20A RMS driver for three-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motors in power tools powered by 3-cell Li-ion batteries (voltage range 5V to 12.6V). The design is a compact 45 x 50 mm actuator that enables sensor-based trapezoidal control. The design uses a discrete compact MOSFET-based three-phase inverter that delivers 20A RMS continuous (70A peak for 1 second) winding current without the need for any external cooling devices or heat sinks. The gate driver's slew rate control and charge pump ensure maximum inverter efficiency (>97% at 10.8V DC) from 5V to 12.6V with optimal EMI performance. Cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection prevents large stall currents in the power stage, and the board can operate in ambient temperatures up to 55°C. The small form factor allows placement of the plate close to the battery pack, the high efficiency allows the battery to last longer, and the 70A peak current capacity delivers high instantaneous peak torque in power tools.
TI reference design TIDA-00947 demonstrates a 10.5mmx14.5mm, 92% efficient low electromagnetic interference (EMI) DC/DC module using the TPS54202, replacing low dropout regulators (LDOs) in most appliance applications. High efficiency eliminates the need for a heat sink, resulting in a smaller, lower cost solution. Higher current capacity enables the addition of more functionality (WiFi, sensors, etc.). High efficiency and low current consumption help achieve stringent energy efficiency ratings.

This reference design shows how to create a battery-powered electronic smart lock using integrated Wi-Fi®. This design shows how the SimpleLink™ Wi-Fi CC3220S wireless MCU (SoC) can be used as the main system controller and network processor to create a highly integrated design. The TIDC-01005 reference design combines the CC3220S and DRV8837 1.8A low voltage brushed DC motor driver to form the core of a Wi-Fi enabled electronic smart lock design. It also uses the SimpleLink low-power Bluetooth® CC2640R2F wireless MCU to demonstrate Wi-Fi configuration over BLE. The design utilizes the LaunchPad™ Development Kit and the DRV8837EVM, making reproduction and evaluation easy. The software used for TIDC-01005 is based on the SimpleLink SDK, enabling maximum portability within the SimpleLink platform.
