Modern complex systems using various combinations of FPGAs, CPUs, DSPs and analog circuits often require multiple voltage rails. To provide high reliability and stability, the power system must not only provide multiple voltage rails, but must also contain appropriate sequencing and necessary protection circuitry.
The module shown in Figure 1 is a reference solution for multi-voltage power systems. The design can be easily adjusted to customer needs and is available in most common system voltages. This circuit uses an optimal combination of switching regulators and linear regulators to provide an overall efficiency of approximately 78% at full output load. At full load, the output power is approximately 25 W.
